Pick one idea: Entourage and Shear Genius

Regardless of whether you like this ad or not, it does one thing very well. Which is to say, the designers of this campaign, picked one idea (targeted to their audience) and ran with it.

Sh*tty
For this ad they tried to throw in too many ideas. Let’s see: picture of the host, check; picture of the contestants, check; tagline in multiple type styles, check; black and white photo of freshly cut bangs, check.

Then they give you three totally bizarre scissors concepts that really amp up the chaos: scissors shaped hairdo, check; scissors unnecessarily attacking a blow dryer, check; and the hardest one of all to comprehend in the short time you might spend looking at this ad, (explosive?) scissors with a lit fuse. Apparently scissors aren’t dangerous enough on their own.

  1. And they left off someone running with scissors, too. Maybe their target audience is teenage girls with ADD. Then it makes sense. (more likely "design by committee", though).

  2. As soon as I saw this ad on the side of a bus, I thought to myself, "Man, I wish I had a camera right now, because I would totally submit this to pr*tty sh*tty." Glad you're lookin' out.
