I should probably love this. But there’s something about the M-leaf mark that doesn’t quite work for me. Something about the combination/ratio of roundy bits to squarey bits is awkward.
It’s safe to say that if this isn’t entirely Pr*tty, it certainly isn’t Sh*tty. But I’ll stick with convention...
Sweet, you used my voting button idea!
ReplyDeleteI like the way the m is inside the leaf, and how its upper right corner is pointy. I kind of wish the "vegetarian" was all caps instead of LC though.
As a sign-maker, I cannot vote pr*tty on this one. When faces are lit unevenly, that is referred to as a hot spot. When you can actually see the complete shape of the bulb, I don't even think there's a term for it except, "We have to remake that sign."
ReplyDeletePnply, yes, the sign is probably in need of a better diffuser between the light and the face. Although I think it actually looks a bit better than this photo shows. Anyway, I suppose I was looking more at the logo design than the sign making.
ReplyDeleteSh*tty. Why are there three different fonts? If they like the stylized 'm', then commit to it.
ReplyDeleteThe weird shape behind the bland 'vegetarian' doesn't help things.
Sh*tty
ReplyDeleteThey went for a simplistic design and killed it with too many fonts and a strange layout for the overall sign. I like the (m)leaf, but the M should probably be larger inside of the shape, the green border created by the white M is too fat.
i can't decide my vote on this. i am possibly being too generous because i know that vegetarian restaurants, and vegetarian products in general, have a tendency to err on the side of crunchy-granola so it's nice to see a cleaner identity for one. i think it needs refinement, not an overhaul.
ReplyDeleteIt is odd and not successful, but also not without hints of what could have been. But this sign does not say food to me, it says "gas station", or "bio fuel made from leaves."
