I like the little characters. They’re quirky and cute. And I can even appreciate the logotype in all its (appropriate) roughness. But other aspects of this start to irk me.
“Kettlecorn” is typeset in some ugly Lucida Typewriter lookalike. And if you look closely, they’ve repeated the S in “Sam’s” which negates some of its handmade charm. Also, I think this might be better if the popcorn character was to scale with the kettle character: extra wee = extra cute, no?
1. Too much outlining.
ReplyDelete2. Is that popcorn or an octopus?
The basics are there...
ReplyDeleteThe Ike & Sam's Kettlecorn should be on top, they should lose the kettle all together and reduce the popcorn to half it's size. They should also lose the outline on the tagline and make a solid color.
It looks like a good first comp, but it needs a few rounds more. I'll give it a pr*tty for its potential.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the heavy outlines. The repeated s in Ike & Sams is forgivable for a rough draft, but agree that it should be modified to make it look more hand drawn. the typewriter style font for Kettlecorn doesn't bother me so much as the tag line font does. The tag line should also be below everything instead of on top. The characters remind me of pac-man ghosts, and that is always a plus.
ReplyDeleteI think it has personality- despite the slight creepiness of the characters- but the tagline has to go.
ReplyDeleteI should clarify my previous comment. I like the heavy outlines, but they don't need to be used on everything.
ReplyDeleteThe tagline really is overkill.
